Longboard Surfboards

Longboard Surfboard is a single finned surfboard with a large rounded nose. Its length ranges from 9 to 12 feet. It is universally common among all types of surfers whether they are beginners or experienced one. These are the original and very first variety of board used for surfing purposes. Surfers mostly choose long surfboards as they are easy to paddle and their ability to catch waves when the surfers speed down the line especially on gutless and tiny waves. These surfboards are great for beginners as they have a large deck space which provides a greater ease in standing and riding on the deck.

Long Surfboards vary greatly in length, so it depends on what from your surfboard. These surfboards are less manoeuvrable when compared to the short board. As the board gets longer, it needs more space to take a turn. But a longboard surfboard is perfect if you are trying to draw a traditional line with a more emphasis on cross stepping and noise riding. Most of the surfboards are more than 2.5 inches thick with a less noise area and a thinner tail. A surfboard that is too floatable and thick will not respond well to the curves of wave properly.

Long Surfboard which has more curve at the bottom are perfect for nose riding as the curvature of the rocker slows the board and allow the board to float on top of water with extra weight on the tail or nose of the board. With less area of the curve at the bottom of the rocker of the board, the speed of the board is much faster with a slight difficulty in turning. As you progress in your long boarding skills, you must choose a smaller high performance long board in the range of 9 inch to 9.2 inches. Less width and length of these surfboards make the board easier to turn and floatable in water.

There are several other variations in the design of a longboard surfboard, but the length, width, rocker and construction material will get you in the right place where you want to be. The tail design on these long boards does not affect much as they do in short boards. But weight is an important factor, that's something which you should feel for yourself. To check that the how much weight is appropriate for you just take the board in your hands and give it a feel. If you can carry it easily, then it's perfect for you. Generally, light weight long boards are preferred as it gives a real direction and the line to the surfer.

Longboard Surfboards are used mainly in smaller surfs and are good boards to start for beginners because they are easier to stand on it and catch the waves. Also they have more part of floating contact with water and thus the board moves in forward motion with ease. Wide varieties of long surfboard designs are available for surfing in many shapes with numerous tails and fin variations. Your choice will mainly depend on your athletic ability, the wave you intend to ride and your previous surfing experience. Long Surfboards are very durable and has a soft top which comforts the surfer very easily. Getting hit on the head by a long board for the first time can surely change your whole outlook on surfing.
